EARLY HEAD START
What is Early Head Start?
Early Head Start is a federally funded program that began in 1995. This program is available to income eligible families with children younger than age three including infants and toddlers with special needs and pregnant women.
Early Head Start believes that in the first three years of life, a child's brain is developing and making connections that will imprint the way they learn, move and interact socially for the rest of their lives. We believe that parents are their child's first and most important teacher. We are dedicated to partnering with parents to provide opportunities to protect and strengthen the parent child relationship. We offer a variety of trainings and support to promote family success. We believe that by strengthening the parent child relationship we strengthen the family and create stronger communities.
Program Options
Home Based
The Home based program is where children and families meet weekly with a Family/Child Educator (FCE) for 1.5 hours. Together the FCE and parent plan and develop activities and goals for the children and family. Families and children meet twice a month at the center for socialization to increase parent-child developmental/social opportunities.
Combination Classroom
The Combination option is where toddlers over age 2 attend a classroom experience for 3.5 hours a day, two days a week. There are 8 children in the class which is supported by 2 teaching staff. Each child receives a home visit by their teacher once a month when she shares information with parents.
